New song, "Dear John"

I have just uploaded a new song, "Dear John", to my streaming platforms. The song is a single, backed by another new song, " A Longshot Speaks (and a Dark Horse Wins)". The single is not currently available to purchase as a physical product, but both songs will eventually appear on my second album, which I hope will be released either later this year or in 2027. Please feel free to enjoy both meantime on all streaming platforms!

Dear John is a heartfelt message of empathy, support and solidarity to Tourette Syndrome activist John Davidson, following the events that occurred at the recent Baftas Awards ceremony. In the United Kingdom, and beyond, most people offered empathy, support and understanding to John, realising that he suffers from Tourette Syndrome, and that people affected by Tourettes have no control over involuntary tics, actions, or words they may express. Some people, however, criticised John, refusing to accept that what he said was an involuntary reaction caused by his Tourette Syndrome. It's obviously not difficult to appreciate the anger and upset that was felt in the communities offended by the use of a particular word, and it's worth remembering that those angry reactions were said in the heat of the moment. However, as a lifetime sufferer of severe clinical depression and obsessive compulsive disorder, I have also suffered a lot of discrimination, ignorance, stigma and abandonment (not to mention excruciating pain), and to me, the unfair criticism directed at John, wouldn't only have been deeply hurtful to him, but also felt like an unwelcome attack on everyone who suffers and lives with mental health problems. I felt angry for John, and everyone in our community. We have got nothing to feel ashamed or apologise about! I feel awful for everyone who was upset, in both communities, but instead of division, lets try and opt for and celebrate unity. Hopefully a few weeks down the line, everyone has had a chance to reflect, and more importantly gain some insight into Tourette Syndrome and how it affects sufferers.

The work that John is doing to educate people about Tourette Syndrome is pioneering, not only offering guidance and support to those with Tourette Syndrome, but also to inform the wider world about the condition. I do volunteer work for the NHS, working with people experiencing mental health problems, and shared experience of mental health can offer a valuable insight and support to others affected, sometimes offering an understanding that practical training can't achieve.

John, on behalf of millions of people around the world, we're all behind you. Keep up the great work and hold your head up high.
